John Nieman

An accomplished International Advertising Creative Director, celebrated Music Director, published Author, visionary Chef, and gifted Artist — a true multi-talented force of creativity and innovation.

John Nieman is a multi-facete3d creative talent. He is the author of more than 30 books—everything from novels, short stories, poetry, children’s books, and books that combine art and literature.

In his first exposure to the creative world, he was the Creative Director of several world-wide advertising agencies. Here, he won all kinds of awards—for print, and television. This foray lasted for more than 25 years. From there, he became a chef, and actor, a college professor, and then devoted himself to writing books and creating art.

He has enjoyed worldwide acclaim for his unique and very personal genre of art.
His paintings have been exhibited throughout the United States, and in many international cities—including Florence, Montreal, Hamburg, Ferrara, Cannes, Barcelona, Paris and Tokyo.

The father of five children, he lives in Hastings on Hudson, just above Manhattan.

American artist, John Nieman has had various creative careers, including as an advertising creative director, a musical director, chef, author and most recently, he has dedicated himself to the visual arts, leaning towards realistic painting with a strong chiaroscuro. His artwork can be summed up as a combination of hyperrealism, advertising graphics and pop art. Elements and symbols from American life, such as actors or food from everyday take-away restaurants, are alternated in John Nieman ‘s paintings and this gives the viewer an immediate and direct impression of the globalized world in which we live. The objects play and intermix with the black writing he places over the images. Names, rhymes, opposites, proverbs and computerized implications, are inserted in an apparently nonsensical fashion, which bring to mind futurist writings. They may also contain personal meditations and thoughts on our way of living in the fast-track, with subtle connections to the impeccably depicted objects.

John Nieman has exhibited at OpenArtCode London 2017 at the Oxo Gallery on the River Thames, OpenArtCode Tokyo 2017 at the Metropolitan Art Museum, OpenArtCode Monaco 2017 at the Auditorium Rainier III, OpenArtCode Geneva 2019 at the Studio Art Unlimited, OpenArtCode Florence 2018 in S. Lorenzo Church and OpenArtCode Paris 2020 at the Grand Palais.
